Antonio Salieri, court composer in Vienna and teacher of Beethoven and Schubert, masterfully combined Italian elegance with classical clarity. The lively first movement of his C-major Concerto sparkles with wit and dialogue – a cheerful overture to this evening’s concert.
W.A.Mozart: Sonata in d major KV 448
Originally written for two pianos, Mozart’s Sonata KV 448 is a sparkling example of his chamber-music imagination. Captivating themes, virtuosic interplay, and moments of intimate lyricism all come together in this version for flute, oboe, and piano.
Mozart at his best – full of lightness, humour, and musical wit.
Madeleine Dring: Trio for flute, oboe and piano
The English composer Madeleine Dring (1923–1977) combined classical forms with the grace and vitality of British light music. In her Trio for Flute, Oboe and Piano, refined harmonies and gentle humour mingle with a touch of French elegance reminiscent of Poulenc. A charming and colourful work that unites virtuosity with sheer joy of playing.
Karl Eduard Goepfart: Trio für Flöte, Oboe und Klavier, op.74
Karl Eduard Goepfart (1859–1942), active in Weimar and closely connected with the city’s musical life around Liszt and the court orchestra, composed a substantial body of chamber music. His Trio op. 74 captivates with its warm late-Romantic tone, broad melodic lines, and the intimate interplay of the three voices – music of natural elegance and vivid expression.
