Marei Schibilsky (violoncello)
Julia Stephan (piano)

program:

W.A.Mozart: Piano trio B-flat major KV502
Composed in 1786, alongside Le nozze di Figaro, this trio is the first of Mozart’s three great “Viennese trios.” It marks a new stage in the genre, giving piano, violin, and cello equal voices rather than mere accompaniment roles. Contemporary audiences admired its elegance and lively dialogue – qualities that still captivate listeners today.

Frank Bridge: Phantasy in c minor
Written in 1907 for a competition sponsored by Walter Willson Cobbett, the Phantasy in C minor reflects the young Bridge’s command of late-Romantic sonorities and imaginative harmonic color. Within its single-movement form, he weaves lyrical intensity with refined chamber textures – a glimpse of the individuality that would later shape him into a key mentor for Benjamin Britten.

Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy: Piano trio d minor op.49

Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio in D minor (1839) quickly became one of the most beloved chamber works of the Romantic era. Robert Schumann hailed it as “the master trio of our time,” praising its perfect balance of classical clarity and romantic expression. With its lyrical beauty, dramatic sweep, and pianistic brilliance, the trio remains a cornerstone of the repertoire.
