Quantum Clarinet Trio
Elena Veronesi (clarinet)
Johannes Przygodda (cello)
Bokyung Kim (piano)
The Quantum Clarinet Trio, whose performances maintain “radiance and tension...from the first to the last note” (Remy Franck, Pizzicato Magazine) and whose “interplay is perfectly coordinated” (Imke Griebsch, RBB), has established itself as a leading clarinet trio of its generation.
The three musicians, who met while studying at the University Mozarteum in Salzburg, have been playing together since 2019 and just a few months later they attracted attention by winning the third prize at the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition (USA).
For the 2024/25 season, the trio will be Artist in Residence at the Britten Pears Arts Program in the UK.
Their debut CD, featuring works by Brahms, Kahn, and Frühling, was released in autumn 2023 in co-production with Deutschlandfunk Kultur on the label Hänssler Classic, and has received numerous enthusiastic reviews from the press. They received 5 star reviews in the Pizzicato Magazine, Fono Forum, Amadeus Magazine, and Musica Magazine, as well as radio broadcasts on Ö1, Bremen 2, RBB, Deutschlandfunk Kultur and the Italian radio MCA, among others. They also appeared on the “Generations France Musique - Le live” radio show in Paris. Their CD was selected by Charlotte Gardner as her “Classical Choice” for January 2024 in her dCS column, and they were nominated for an Opus Klassik award for 'Best Chamber Music Recording 2024.'
In physics, a quantum is the minimum amount of any physical entity involved in an interaction and for this reason indivisible. Music, as a quantum, is the essence that brings this trio together.
program:
Gabriel Fauré: Trio d minor op.120
After its premiere in 1922, Fauré's only piano trio became “the” classic of the trio repertoire in France alongside Ravel. The slow movement in particular is one of the most beautiful that Fauré ever wrote.
Mikhail Glinka: Trio pathétique in d minor
Mikhail Glinka (1804-1857) is considered the founder of Russian national music and inspired composers such as Mussorgsky and Tchaikovsky. The “Trio pathétique” was composed in 1832 during a stay in Italy and has autobiographical features. Four passionate movements full of drama, lyricism and elegance - one of the most impressive pieces of chamber music of the early Romantic period.
Ferdinand Ries: Trio B-flat major op.28
Ferdinand Ries (1784-1838) was a pupil and later also a patron of Beethoven, whose style he combined with independent Romantic traits. As a pianist and composer, he achieved great recognition throughout Europe during his lifetime.
This trio unfolds with virtuosity and lyricism - a colorful example of the diversity of early chamber music with clarinet.
Nino Rota: Trio for clarinet, violoncello and piano
Nino Rota - primarily known as a film composer (The Godfather, La dolce vita etc.) - was also considered the "Ravel of Italy" thanks to his chamber music side. The trio for clarinet, violoncello and piano was composed in 1973 and shows Nino Rota's other, chamber music side beyond his famous film music. In three contrasting movements, he combines cantabile melodies with rhythmic liveliness and subtle humor. A work full of lightness and subtle sophistication that charmingly interweaves the timbres of the three instruments.
